Most of the collection consists of command histories of USS Oriskany (CV 34), Air Wing Sixteen and Attack Squadrons 162-167 for the years 1965-1967, statistics of Navy aircraft losses and damages during the Vietnam War, 1967-1968, and an index of US. Navy aircraft lost or damaged during the Vietnam War, 1964-1973.

Hugh Lynch was born in 1934 in Brockton, MA. He attended Holy Cross College for two years and then joined the U.S. Navy and entered the flight training program. He returned to college in 1958 and graduated in 1960. He rejoined the Navy in 1961 and continued assignments in aviation. He saw action in the Vietnam War in USS Enterprise and USS Ranger in 1971-1972. He served as chairman of the Naval Operations Department and retired from the Navy in 1983.
